castaway cushion - these soft nappa leather cushions are hand stripped and knotted by a community of unemployed women from the nyanga and khayalitsha townships in the western cape. a single cushion takes days to make, so in purchasing one of them you are really buying into a labor of love.
moonflower cushion & ottoman- these unique felt creations adorn cushions and ottomans are made from natural hemp or linen. the felt moonflowers are handmade by local south african felt artists from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. the centers are hand-beaded the women of the african children’s feeding scheme.
global village cushion – these cushions are hand crocheted by a group of craftswomen in the western cape. our vision is to see this initiative grow into a sustainable creative project that creates ongoing opportunity for these women.
bloom cushion – hand-crafted felt flowers made by local felt artists give these vibrant silk cushions a homegrown feel. the crochet centre detail is by the women of the african childrens feeding scheme.
unfolding and contemplation cushions - these nature-inspired designs are screen printed by hand by a small printing business operating from the cafda premises (cape flats development association) in grassy park, cape town. their aim is to create employment for the underprivileged, and we are happy to support their endevour to uplift their comunity
organic felt pod cushion - falling felt leaves in soft greys and charcoals are encapsulated in sheer muslin pods, hand stitched onto a white linen base, in a cushion creation that emulates nature. these cushions are entirely handmade by a small and talented group of women at the soweto centre of the african childrens feeding scheme.
my green world cushions - we are very excited by this new "eco green" initiative. these indoor / outdoor chair and floor cushions are hand crocheted by a group of ladies in the eatern cape from recycled plastic bags. these contemporary designer cushions are not just part of a job creation initiative, they are also kind to the environment. working out of a reclaimed container amidst the poverty in motherwell township these ladies are a true inspiration.
freshly found cushion - hand crafted and dyed felt flowers by local felt artists adorn a chocolate cushion in humble felt, finished off with a handstitched orange border.
anenome, tumbleweed and funkshag cushions - a combined effort between the soweto based group of ladies from the african chilldrens feeding scheme and a family of mother and daughters in cape town. these tactile cushions are as gorgeous to touch as to look at. the fabric is caringly and patiently stripped and tied and knotted, creating hundreds of shaggy tufts that create this desirable item.
i am layers cushions - these cushions are a mixed and varied combination of textures in silk,organza,tulle, felt, and linen in shades of charcoal,grey,stone and white. the ladies from the pimville feeding centre in soweto painstakingly cut and thread and knot at random so each cushion is slightly unique. recycled fabrics are used to create a piece that is simply beautiful.
sunburst cushions - made using the same technique by the same group as make the "i am layers" cushion, but in shades of red,pink,chocolate,orange and mustard.
circle of life curtain - the beautiful circles on these natural hemp curtains have been hand beaded by the women of the african children’s feeding scheme. each circle is a unique personal expression of the woman who crafted it. as part of our upliftment program 10% of the proceeds of each curtain is channeled back into the community. so, in addition to creating beauty in your personal space you are contributing towards making a difference in the lives of these women.
